Milan and Roma Interested in Highly-Rated RB Leipzig Playmaker

Marcel Sabitzer may leave RB Leipzig this summer to take on a different challenge. The midfielder was one of the main protagonists in Austria’s impressive Euro run. He has only a year left in his contract with the German club and does not plan to extend it. Milan and Roma both appreciate his skill-set, Bild reported.

The Rossoneri could have an advantage because they will participate in the Champions League next season. Sabitzer’s deal comprises a €50M release clause, but he could move for less because of its near expiration date. It will likely take more than €17M, the newspaper warns. Milan are keeping tabs on an array of options to replace Hakan Calhanoglu.

The 27-year-old midfielder was inserted in the initial list of targets when José Mourinho took over Roma. The Giallorossi have run into some difficulties in the negotiation for Granit Xhaka. Despite the Swiss international’s desire to transfer to the Italian Capital, they have not been able to come to terms with Arsenal. The two sides remain about €5M apart in the talks.

Leipzig might decide not to obstacle their linchpin if he asked to move. They acquired his heir apparent Dominik Szoboszlai in January, although he never featured due to sports hernia. Sabitzer has logged 52 goals and 42 assists in 227 appearances with Die Roten Bullen over the last five seasons. He has 53 caps with Austria, and has found he target 8 times. On top of the Italian sides, multiple teams would likely bid for him if made available on the market.
