Milan and Star Fullback Far Apart in Contract Talks

The recent antics by Theo Hernandez risk jeopardizing the negotiation to extend his contract with Milan, which was already challenging because of his demands. The star hinted he’d like to stay put long-term, but the parties have always been rather distant in the negotiation, Calciomercato informs.

His camp has asked for €8M annually plus add-ons, therefore a significant raise compared to his current €4.5M salary. He’d surpass Rafael Leao, but the brass is unlikely to give in to his requests. Even though the ‘Decreto Crescita’ would still be valid since it’d be the renewal of an old deal, the demands don’t coincide with the MO of the team.

Milan are willing to reward players within a certain limit, and Theo Hernandez will have to deserve it in the coming months. He’s tied to them until 2026. A solution one way or the other needs to be found before the end of the season.

The performance and red card against Fiorentina surely didn’t help his case. While there’s a mutual desire to continue together, an agreement on the figures needs a lot of work at this stage. The Rossoneri aren’t entertaining an early sale, and it’d take a massive offer to change their mind.

Our Take on Milan and Theo Hernandez

His inconsistency is maddening, as he can go from utterly dominant to being disengaged and a sieve defensively overnight. Despite that, the combo on the left wing is part of the fabric of the team at this point, and it’d be highly surprising if they deprived themselves of one piece. The recent events don’t work in his favor, but it won’t be an emotional decision in the end.
