Milan Attacking Duo Has Fallen Into an Unusual Slump

Milan once again fired blanks in the third match of the Champions League group stage. The Rossoneri have yet to score continentally. They primarily lean on Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao offensively, but they haven’t done much damage lately, Sky points out.

The Frenchman last hit the net on September 1st in the third Serie A matchday against Roma. He had gotten off to a promising start but regressed to the mean, if not worse. Instead, the Portuguese star hasn’t found the target in six appearances, eight including international fixtures. His seasonal tally is so-so with 3 goals in 11 appearances, although he has dished 3 assists. He last beat a goalie on September 23rd.

Milan don’t have many other weapons to turn to besides Giroud, Leao, and Christian Pulisic, who has been the most consistent of the trio. Samuel Chukwueze suffered a thigh strain during the break and will likely be out until mid-November.

Noah Okafor was absent versus PSG due to muscle fatigue but should be back soon. Luka Jovic hurt his thigh while warming up and is undergoing further evaluations, but he reportedly avoided serious issues.

Our Take on the Milan Attack

Despite their precise summer strategy to stop being so dependent on Leao and Giroud, their only new attacker that has panned out so far is Pulisic. They need a better contribution from the midfield too, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek might be the only one with a solid amount of goals in him.
