Milan Begin Tracking AZ Alkmaar Midfield Cornerstone

Milan will add at least one midfielder in the summer and have inserted Tijjani Reijnders in their list of targets. They are evaluating him but haven’t opened talks with AZ Alkmaar thus far. They are looking for somebody with his traits, Sky informs.

He’s coming off a career season where he tallied 8 goals and 11 assists in 54 appearances. He contributed to eliminating Lazio from the European Conference League. He has spent his entire career in the Netherlands and has three caps with the U20 national team.

Milan could be enticed by his versatility, as Reijnders can star either as a pivot or as a no.10, and by his price tag. According to the publication, a €10M offer could convince AZ Alkmaar to sell, even though he has a long-term contract until 2027.

The Rossoneri need to substitute Ismael Bennacer, who will return in early 2024 due to a cartilage lesion in his knee. They have also lost Brahim Diaz, who headed back to Real Madrid following a two-year loan spell. They are doing their due diligence on a few players. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was touted as an early favorite, but their pursuit stalled after Paolo Maldini’s exit, Football London reports.

Our Take on Milan and Reijnders

Considering that they are at their best with a midfielder as a trequartista and that it would be rich to go into the season with Rade Krunic as a full-time starter, they should definitely take multiple bites at the apple. At least one of the new signings will be a relatively cheap one, like the Dutchman.
