Milan Captain Romagnoli Expected to Sleep on Lazio Contract Offer

Lazio are frontrunners for the capturing the services of Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli. The Roma youth product is being touted for a free transfer at the end of the season to the team he grew up supporting and the Biancocelesti are equally interested in the 27-year-old.

The Rossoneri management have failed to tie down Romagnoli to a contract extension deal, making it highly likely that he will part ways with the Milan giants to head south to the capital city ahead of the 2022/23 season. The former Sampdoria man earns €5.5m at San Siro, but Milan’s recent hiccups regarding finances have prompted them to offer less than half of his current wages (€2.5m) in order to renew his deal.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato), Lazio president Claudio Lotito is eager to sign Romagnoli by enticing him with a €3m net per season deal. The inclusion of bonuses in the agreement would take that figure just a little bit higher and significantly more than what Milan are offering.

Romagnoli’s agent Mino Raiola has a reputation of being a tough nut to crack when it comes to negotiations but the Biancocelesti management are unconcerned, since sporting director Igli Tare has maintained a good relationship with the Dutch-Italian agent.

Lazio are eager to snap up on free agents in the summer, given the club’s precarious financial position of late and the defender is their top priority at the moment. The left-footed centre-back is expected to make a decision on his future within the next month or so.

Romagnoli has 243 appearances under his belt for Milan since joining them for €25m in 2015.
