Milan Change Their Position on the Future of Romagnoli

The future of Alessio Romagnoli is up in the air, but there is a chance it will still be with Milan. The club has held some talks with his agent Mino Raiola recently. While they are not close on the numbers, the management could make an effort to keep him. They fear that losing both him and Franck Kessié for nothing would be too impactful technically and economically, Sky Sport reports.

On the other hand, Romagnoli would have to accept a steep pay cut to re-up with the Rossoneri. He currently has the highest gross wages on the roster at €10M. Zlatan has a richer net salary, but Milan pay fewer taxes on the Swedish star.

Despite the U-turn, Milan face a challenging negotiation. They do not want to retain him at the current figures, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Moreover, their relationship with Raiola has soured in the past few months. It will also depend on what kind of offers Romagnoli receives from outside teams.

Lazio and Juventus are reportedly the most interested suitors. The 26-year-old is a well-known Biancocelesti fan despite growing up in the Roma’s youth academy. Instead, the Old Lady has a tight rapport with his representative considering the numerous deals orchestrated together. The Bianconeri are looking for a defender given the uncertainty surrounding the future of Matthijs De Ligt and Giorgio Chiellini’s age and injury history. Instead, Milan have been linked to Bremer and Yerry Mina as possible fallback plans should Romagnoli end up departing.
