Milan Chief Backs Fonseca, Downplays Stars’ Controversy

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani addressed the present issues at the club during Tammy Abraham’s introductory presser. He defender coach Paulo Fonseca (via Ansa).

“We obviously wished to have collected nine points, but we’re not panicking. I wouldn’t say that the next matches are particularly important or anything of the sort. We’re satisfied with the work of the gaffer during the preparation. We’re with him and the squad.”

The official downplayed Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao isolating themselves from the rest of the squad during the cooling break in the Lazio game.

“Too much has been said about it. We and the players were surprised by the reactions. It’s a nothing burger. Fonseca and Theo commented on it, also speaking for Leao. They didn’t mean to stir the point. At a certain point, it’s up to you whether you believe it or not.”

Furlani took stock of the window and the early difficulties for Milan.

“We did what we set out to do, so we’re content. In football, people tend to focalize on price tags and not value. We’re convinced to have signed strong players who will contribute to our successes in the future. It’s not a great moment, but we’ll get out of it by staying united and working hard.”

Milan will most likely keep Luka Jovic.

“We have three competitions plus the Supercoppa. There’ll be many matches, so it made sense to us to have three strikers. Abraham was crucial in facilitating the transfer. Also other newcomers intensely wanted to be part of this project. We thank them for that.”

  1. They’d better back Fonceca since they are the ones hired him and they were so late to give new signings , they are 80 percent responsible for the result of the early season, shouldn’t blame Fonceca at all ‼️
This Milan was winless 8 matches, 4 defeats, 4 draws and only one ☝️ win at the end of last season, Pioli really messed up and left the mess to new coach to fix…any coach would have struggled, and Fonceca is not great coach either….
