Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani has confirmed that Alvaro Morata has penned the contract that will tie him to the team long-term. However, the announcement of his arrival might not be imminent. He dished to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We’ve taken care of everything with the player. He has inked a four-year deal with an option. The transfer hasn’t been completed yet due to some technical aspects. Activating a release clause is a complex and delicate process. We’re handling it with maximum attention.”
Furlani explained why Milan targeted and signed Morata.
“He scored 21 goals last season, besides those with the national team. He has hit the net everywhere he has gone: Italy, Spain, England, and in the Champions League. Plus, he has lifted over 20 trophies throughout his career. The fact that he’s accustomed to success was decisive to us. We’re very satisfied. Moreover, he’s eager to join and believes it’ll be the best spell of his beautiful career. We’re confident about that too. After spending time with him, I understood why he’s the Spanish captain. He talks like a leader, which impressed me.”
Instead, Furlani kept things close to the vest about other rumored Milan targets, Lazar Samardzic and Youssouf Fofana.
“They are good players, but we don’t want to focus on just one or two. We’ll see which situation develops better. This summer is a lot different from the previous one for us. We weren’t shy because we needed to rebuild half of the team. That’s no longer the case, so we’re operating in a different fashion.”
