Milan Closer to Reunion with Two Midfielders, High on Sampdoria Starlet

Sandro Tonali is no longer a Milan player, as his loan spell ended without activating the option to buy. Brescia called him up for the pre-season camp that kicks off in 7 days, but he is unlikely to participate. The two teams will meet again today to try to reach an agreement on the new fee, Gianluca Di Marzio reported. The previous one was €15M plus €10M add-ons.

Another midfielder is eyeing a return, as Tiemoué Bakayoko is pushing to re-join the Rossoneri. He has just a year left in his contract with Chelsea. Therefore, the fee to acquire him should be reasonable, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Instead, if Milan wanted him on loan, the Blues could pick up a unilateral option to extend his deal. In 2019, the Italian club turned down a €35M clause to acquire him after a temporary spell.

Mikkel Damsgaard is gaining steam as a possible addition for the front-line. His price tag, which started at €30M, is going up thanks to a strong Euro. The Milan management likes him a lot because he is very young and versatile but they will not participate in bidding wars. They could offer Andrea Conti in a partial swap. The fullback could reunite with coach Roberto D’Aversa, who is the frontrunner for the Sampdoria job.

According to the Italian newspaper, Hakim Ziyech is their preferred target to replace Hakan Calhanoglu. However, the potential deal will likely take time to materialize. Damsgaard is versatile and, if Rafael Leao and Jens Petter Hauge left, Milan could acquire him anyway.
