Milan have started their pre-season camp without any new addition, but one could come soon after Euro 2024, as they are in pole position to onboard Youssouf Fofana. His participation in the international tournament has delayed the proceedings, but they are optimistic the deal will be completed positively, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
The Frenchman has okayed the move, and there are no issues on personal terms, nor with his entourage, unlike in Joshua Zirkzee’s case. Juventus are no longer in the race after landing Douglas Luiz and Khephren Thuram.
Milan and Monaco are working on the Fofana fee, which should be around €20M. The Rossoneri might not stop at him in the midfield. Ismael Bennacer is expendable, although his exit isn’t imminent. He could still wind up in Saudi Arabia, but Stefano Pioli no longer going to Al-Ittihad might be a factor. He has a €50M release clause, but the team could settle for €40/45M.
The Serie A side continues to negotiate with Tottenham concerning the transfer of Emerson Royal. There’s still a €10M gap between the offer and the request, though.

They can ill-afford to miss out on another target, even though it’d be easier to find a sound alternative in this case. They’d be very lucky to fetch that much for Bennacer after a woeful season. They’d have to be careful about replacing him, as putting Tijjani Reijnders in that role would be constraining.
