Milan Inch Closer to Morata as Atletico Talks Advance

Milan have secured the signing of UEFA EURO 2024 winner Alvaro Morata on a permanent transfer, with the player reportedly giving his yes to the Rossoneri before winning the championship on the weekend. The Spanish striker will leave Atletico Madrid, returning to Serie A after a two year hiatus in the Spanish capital.

As per transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano and other reliable sources, Morata is scheduled to undergo a medical examination for Milan before finalizing his signature in the coming days.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo confirmed the departure of the prolific striker, lauding Morata both as a player and person.

“It seems like he is leaving. Those who want to stay, stays. Who does not want to stay, then leaves. It annoys us because Alvaro is a fantastic player and one magnificent person. No one will stop him, neither me nor Atletico.” (via Sky Italia)

Contractual terms dictate that the center-forward will arrive on a four-year contract, with the option for a fifth. A termination clause of €15M is expected to be paid to the Rojiblancos by Milan to execute the transfer, and a supposed €5M net per season is awaiting Morata at San Siro.

The former Juventus mainstay, who temporarily spent two seasons between 2020 and 2022 in Turin and two seasons prior in the 2010’s, is Milan’s first high-profile transfer of the summer. Zlatan Ibrahimovic reportedly played a big role in luring the Spaniard to Milan.
