Milan Considering Three Candidates to Replace Under-Fire Paulo Fonseca

Paulo Fonseca’s future at Milan has already reached a ‘make or break’ point, with a mouth-watering Derby della Madonnina waiting in the wings. Another defeat against fierce rivals Inter could put the final nail in the Portuguese manager’s coffin at San Siro.

Despite showing utmost trust in their newly-appointed boss amidst a disappointing Serie A start, the Rossoneri hierarchy has reconsidered their stance after Tuesday’s Champions League fiasco. Liverpool came from behind to beat below-par Milan 3-1.

It wasn’t the final straw to break the camel’s back, but the pressure on Fonseca is at an all-time high heading into Saturday’s encounter against Inter. That fixture could decide the ex-Roma manager’s fate at Milan, with the club already casting a wide net in search of his successor.

According to Calciomercato’s recent report, former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic has emerged as a realistic option for Milan. The Italian giants have reportedly made indirect inquiries about the 41-year-old tactician while weighing on two other alternatives.

Massimiliano Allegri and Maurizio Sarri are the other names on the list. The former won the Serie A title with Milan over a decade ago. But, his defensive-minded football somewhat tarnished his legacy during his second stint at Juventus.

As for Sarri, he has been out of work since cutting ties with Lazio toward the end of last season. His football philosophy and experience might suit the current situation at San Siro. However, Milan won’t make any move before the derby.
