Milan Contemplate Reunion to Replenish Their Defense

Milan have been linked to a few defenders in recent weeks, even more so after Malick Thiaw suffered a serious injury, joining Pierre Kalulu on the shelf, but they could turn to one they already own to plug the hole: Matteo Gabbia, who’s currently on loan at Villarreal, TuttoSport relayed.

The 24-year-old has appeared 11 times so far, starting 9 matches with El Submarino Amarillo. He has played more consistently in the Europa League than in La Liga. He left to star with more regularity since the Rossoneri planned to lean on Fikayo Tomori, Simon Kjaer, and Marco Pellegrino, on top of the two center-backs currently hurt.

Villarreal don’t have an option to buy, and Milan have opened talks to have Gabbia back in January. Instead, among their other target, Jakub Kiwior stands above everybody else in the pecking order, Sky relays.

The Rossoneri want the Polish talent on loan with an option to buy. The Gunners are considering his sale since they paid €25M to acquire him from Spezia, but he hasn’t had a big role since switching sides. He has appeared nine times this season.

Our Take on Milan, Gabbia, and Kiwior

Bringing back their own youngster would make more sense than a six-month flier on somebody unfamiliar with their system who would have no shot of being retained. They appear to be thinking long-term, so their chase hinges on whether they can get a player they like for the future at an affordable price tag.
