RB Leipzig’s star-in-the-making Benjamin Sesko remains a profile closely followed by Milan following a flying start to life in Germany. According to Calciomercato, Rossoneri are keeping close tabs on the 20-year-old striker amid an ongoing pursuit of Olivier Giroud’s long-term successor.
Milan got in touch with the Red Bull group last summer. The Italians tried to discuss the possibility of taking Sesko to Serie A. But it wasn’t meant to be, as the Slovenia international already had a deal to follow the established trajectory and swap Salzburg for Leipzig.
Since Paolo Maldini left Milan, the club’s interest in the highly-rated youngster has gone cold. Meanwhile, Sesko’s early career in the Bundesliga has been a resounding success. He has tallied five goals in ten appearances for Leipzig this term.
Away on international duty with Slovenia, Sesko has continued to tear opposition defenses apart. He notched up a match-winning double as his side thumped Finland 3-0 on Saturday, taking a significant step toward qualifying for Euro 2024.
Sesko’s impressive form has not gone unnoticed. Milan are again assessing the prospect of making him Giroud’s heir. However, the Italians’ chances of getting a deal over the line are wafer-thin. The young striker’s price tag has already reached a €45 million threshold.
On top of that, Milan would have to fight Arsenal and Chelsea for his services. Bologna starlet Joshua Zirkzee is another exciting youngster courted by Stefano Pioli’s side. His arrival looks far more feasible.
