Milan Courting Serie A Midfielder at Pioli’s Request

Milan might have brought in Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but they cannot rest on their laurels if they’re to maintain the strength of their midfield. According to MilanNews, head coach Stefano Pioli has personally requested the signing of Bologna captain Nicolas Dominguez.

Dominguez emerged as a target for Milan earlier this summer once it became clear Sandro Tonali would no longer be part of the Rossoneri family. Loftus-Cheek has arrived as an emergency signing, but the Italians are still working around the clock to secure more midfield additions.

AZ Alkmaar’s Tijjani Reijnders looks to be inching closer to completing his move to San Siro. Negotiations between the clubs are in full swing, while the player already has a verbal agreement with Milan. Another name on the list is Valencia’s Yunus Musah, but he won’t come cheap.

Tonali’s move to Newcastle United has boosted Milan’s finances. However, they won’t go on a spending spree just to reinforce one department, which brings Dominguez into the equation. The 25-year-old could be a cheaper alternative to the USMNT star.

Unlike Musah, the Argentine midfielder is already an established Serie A performer. He’s spent the last three years at Bologna, earning a reputation as a trustworthy midfielder. And Pioli wants him on his side. The Rossoblu would ideally hold on to their captain. But with Milan in the picture, anything could happen.

With Ismael Bennacer likely to return to action toward the end of the calendar year, Dominguez could be a cost-effective cover-up. It’s now up to Giorgio Furlani to decide whether he wants to act on his head coach’s wish.
