Milan Duo Join Hands to Revel in Crucial Napoli Victory

Milan cruised to a narrow 1-0 win over Napoli to claim top spot in Serie A, just marginally ahead of Inter, who have a game in hand. Olivier Giroud was the man of the match for the Rossoneri, as he displayed his instinctive skills with a deft finish to put his side in the driving seat for the Scudetto title. The Frenchman was overjoyed with his first away goal for Milan in a match of unrivalled importance.

Speaking to DAZN (via MilanNews) after the match, the World Cup winner shrugged away the ‘decisiveness’ of the victory, but nonetheless maintained how important it was to grab three points at a hostile venue.

“It was three points that are worth a lot because it was a match against a Scudetto rival. It wasn’t decisive but it was important to win. We did very well with a lot of energy and motivation.

I don’t want to talk about the Scudetto but we hope to win something this year. We are ambitious and we will go until the end,” he said.

Coach Stefano Pioli was as ecstatic as his striker, praising his team for putting up a commendable display against the Partenopei.

He said: “Very important three points for the table and mostly because we beat a strong team. The boys worked a lot and then we were rewarded.”

However, the Italian was wary that the Nerazzurri do possess a game in hand. Speaking of which, he was not impressed.

“The favourite is Inter, the ranking is still virtual. I’m sorry that there are games in hand to be played, it would be more correct if we were all playing the same games at this point in the season,” he ended. (via MilanNews)

Milan sit with 60 points after 28 matches, two ahead of Inter and three ahead of Napoli. The Rossoneri are in line for their first Scudetto championship in over a decade, as they hope to halt the Nerazzurri’s claim for a second successive title.
