Milan Establish Contact with Premier Legue Full-Back

Though Milan have yet to make Paulo Fonseca’s appointment as a new chief staff official, they’re already making moves in the market. According to Sky Sport, via Calciomercato, Emerson Royal’s entourage touched down at the Rossoneri headquarters on Monday to discuss a potential move to San Siro.

Only three years after Tottenham Hotspur poured €25 million into Barcelona’s bank accounts, Emerson could pack his bags and leave North London. Milan could be his next destination, but Spurs’ excessive €30m price tag remains a sticking point.

Milan chief executives held exploratory talks with the Brazilian’s camp to see if there’s a wriggle room as they hope to drive Tottenham’s asking price down. With Emerson’s contract running out in 2026, those attempts seem far-fetched.

That’s where the player’s will could come into play. Emerson has lost his place in the starting XI under Ange Postecoglou. Pedro Porro’s rise to stardom restricted the 25-year-old to only 11 Premier League starts in the season just gone.

Given the Spaniard’s outrageous form, the former Atletico Mineiro right-back can’t realistically hope to fight back into the lineup. As a result, Milan could gain an upper hand in potential negotiations with Tottenham. On the other hand, Spurs are among Europe’s most financially sound clubs.

However, Davide Calabria’s disappointing season means the Rossoneri must add another right-back option this summer. Whether it’s Emerson or someone else, Milan must address their captain’s shortcomings.

Elsewhere, Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee has landed a blow on the Serie A runners-up’s hopes of luring him to San Siro.
