Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani commented on the new stadium and their overall philosophy before the goalless tie against Borussia Dortmund in the second round of the Champions League’s group stage. He talked to Sky and Amazon Prime (via Calciomercato).
“We’ve been involved in the project to build a new arena for the last five years. The club needs it to be competitive. We’re forging ahead on San Donato, and we hope it’ll become a reality soon. We’re traveling around to learn from others. The goal is to play the first game there in five years.”
Furlani took stock of their summer.
“We didn’t sleep much but for good reasons. We worked well at Casa Milan and with the coaching staff. The key was to decide together as a group. The newcomers have done well so far, but we’ll see in June. The finances were disastrous five years ago, and we don’t want that to happen again. We’ll always be disciplined, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be competitive on the pitch. Moneyball isn’t a magical formula, and there’s no secret algorithm. It’d be unfair to say we just use that.”
Furlani dished on the potential return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Mediaset.
“He’s a legend and he’s thinking about what to do in the future. In the meantime, we’re ready to welcome him at the Milanello training center any time he wants.”
