Roma youth product Riccardo Calafiori is set to depart FC Basel, perhaps on a permanent deal, following burgeoning interest from Milan. The Rossoneri excluded Fode Ballo-Toure from their preseason tour squad to the USA, indicating the left-back’s future is away from the San Siro and strengthening links with Calafiori as the Senegalese’s direct replacement.
Milan have long been intent on parting ways with Ballo-Toure, with Bologna and Nice interested in potentially luring him this summer. His departure would mean the lack of reinforcements to back Theo Hernandez, and as Calciomercato indicate, Calafiori is well-admired for his versatility on the left flank, making him an apt acquisition.

The 21-year-old Basel wingback has a contract valid in Switzerland until the summer of 2025, with the option to extend for a further year. Calafiori appeared 22 times for Basel last season, before which he spent a season on loan at Genoa.
Roma still hold a 40% sell-on clause on their former Primavera player. Milan also have Andrea Cambiaso on their shortlist.
