Milan Eyeing Three Defenders Ahead of January Window

Milan plan to sign a new center-back in the upcoming transfer market session and have few young options on their list: Strasbourg’s Mohamed Simakan, Shalke 04’s Ozan Kabak and Verona’s Matteo Lovato, Gazzetta dello Sport’s transfer market expert Carlo Laudisa reported today.

The Rossoneri could offload both Leo Duarte and Mateo Musacchio to make room for the new addition: the Brazilian youngster has featured just seven times since joining the club in 2019 and has been outplayed by Matteo Gabbia in recent months. Musacchio instead has not played since February because of a significant ankle injury that required surgery.

The management intends to add a talented but already experienced prospect, who could eventually take over, behind the two starters Simon Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli. The article suggests that 20-year-old Simakan is the preferred target and that there have already been some talks between the involved parties. He has notched 32 appearances in Ligue 1 in the last two years. Milan already pursued Kabak in September and October but could not ultimately reach agreement to bring him in.

Lovato has been one of the biggest revelations of the current Serie A campaign, but Verona is not a cheap shop and might prefer to keep the player on loan even if they decide to sell him, similarly to what they did last year with Sofyan Amrabat and Amir Rrahmani, an intention that might clash with the Rossoneri’s strategy.
