Milan Frontrunners to Sign Bologna Prodigy Next Summer

Milan fought tooth and nail to sign a worthy successor to Olivier Giroud in the summer, but none of their efforts to land a high-quality striker paid off. Rossoneri ended up with Luka Jovic as a last-gasp signing after missing out on several priority targets, including Porto’s Mehdi Taremi.

According to Calciomercato, Milan won’t revive their interest in the Iran international and will try to prise Joshua Zirkzee away from Bologna at the end of the season instead. The youngster’s significant progress under the stewardship of Thiago Motta has not gone under the radar.

Among several Italian clubs keen on the Dutchman, Stefano Pioli’s men are the most genuine contenders to sign Zirkzee. Despite Bolgona’s stubborn stance on the futures of the 22-year-old and his fellow attacking comrade Lewis Ferguson, they’ll unlikely have the means to keep them at Renato Dall’Ara beyond next summer.

Zirkzee emerged as a transfer target for Ajax in the summer. However, he refused to return to his homeland, even though his first Serie A season didn’t go to plan. His decision to stay has proved spot on, as he’s amassed four goals and one assist in 12 appearances this term, landing a spot on the Milan shortlist.

Unlike Jovic, Zirkzee is a phenomenal all-round forward, capable of creating chances for himself and his teammates. Well adept to dropping back to help in the build-up play, the ex-Bayern Munich starlet is a technically-gifted attacker with ample room for development. Milan would be wise to launch a bid as soon as possible to anticipate the competition.
