Milan Have Long Decided Future of Barcelona Loanee

Sergino Dest has completely fallen off the radar in recent months as his Milan stay is about to end. He hasn’t played since January and was removed from the Champions League list. The club even let him miss some time to play with the USMNT against Mexico last month. They were one of the few sides to do it since they didn’t require his contribution.

Per Calciomercato, the Rossoneri won’t pick up their €20M option to redeem him from Barcelona. He joined on a flash deal when Alessandro Florenzi suffered a serious thigh injury right before deadline day. He had some chances early but none recently.

Dest came in with the expectation of competing with Davide Calabria, but that has never been the case since he didn’t assimilate the requests of the Milan staff. Moreover, he struggled to train properly due to recurring muscle fatigue and a calf injury.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the defender could move to Union Berlin next season, but only on loan if they manage to qualify for the Champions League.

Our Take on Milan and Dest

He never really had a shot to stay considering the price tag and secondary role. The more interesting question is whether they will go after a right-back come next summer, as some rumors suggest. Florenzi is healthy and still serviceable, Calabria is rock-solid, and Pierre Kalulu can fill in if need be. They can afford to use him there without taking a hit centrally thanks to Malik Thiaw blossoming and Simon Kjaer looking like his older self as of late.
