Milan Held Meeting with Sassuolo for Promising Serie A Striker

Milan are considering adding a new striker after the second injury suffered by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and they asked Sassuolo for information about Gianluca Scamacca after Sunday’s match, Gazzetta dello Sport and SportMediaset reports. The 21-year-old forward is on loan to Genoa and has had a good impact with Serie A, scoring two early goals. The Rossoneri are evaluating his profile also for the summer.

The Emilian club have put a €20/25M price tag on him and Genoa want something in return to release him early, but Milan might be able to convince them using Lorenzo Colombo or Mateo Musacchio. Scamacca is set to be a highly coveted player in January as also Fiorentina and Roma are chasing after him.

While the Rossoneri are prioritizing a center-back, they are ready to pounce if the right opportunity presents itself to bring in a new forward to back up, and then partner, Ibrahimovic. The Swedish ace was supposed to come back last week from a thigh strain, but he suffered a new calf problem that might sideline him for multiple matches in 2021.

Our view

Even though they have been able to stay afloat and Rafael Leao scored over the weekend, the committee to replace Ibrahimovic has not really worked out and therefore Milan would be wise to sign another pure striker in the upcoming window. Scamacca would be a good investment for both the present and the future, but the fact that they have to negotiate with two different teams makes the deal a little challenging and the fee is fairly steep.
