Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta believes it is too soon to declare Inter as favorites ahead of next season, urging everyone to keep calm until the transfer market comes to a close.

With the summer market open for just over a week now, both Milan giants have been taking big steps in reinforcing their respective ranks, but it is the Nerazzurri who have so far acted convincingly, especially with the re-signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

Milan, on the other hand, have witnessed a slow start after the delays in renewing the contracts of executives Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. Divock Origi and Yacine Adli have been the only two Rossoneri onboardings so far.

Speaking to Correire dello Sport in an exclusive interview, Costacurta revealed his thoughts on the favorites for the next campaign’s Scudetto.

“Last year there was a greater balance between teams, especially with the departures of Lukaku and Hakimi. Napoli and Atalanta were also in the race. Before labeling any favorites, I would wait to see how the market evolves, considering that Di Maria and Pogba are joining Juventus right now.”

When quizzed if Inter have the most complete squad, the Costacurta answered rather diplomatically.

“At the moment, they have strengthened themselves the best. Romelu is the star but then two great players like Mkhitaryan and Asllani have also arrived.”

He also had an opinion to share regarding Juventus.

“Their strategy could be successful, even if I wonder how they will look after the World Cup. In the first months they will be very strong, then there are no certainties about the conditions of the players after Qatar.”

The 2022/23 Serie A season will kick off in the second week of August. Milan welcome Udinese on the opening matchday, whereas Serie B champions Lecce will host Inter on the same day – 13th August. Juventus face Sassuolo two days later at the Allianz Stadium.
