Last season’s Salernitana hero Boulaye Dia has attracted interest from Serie A heavyweights AC Milan, who are searching for a new striker. As per Calciomercato, the Rossoneri see the Senegalese forward as a possible cost-effective solution for their attacking woes.

Dia completed his permanent move from Valencia to Salernitana earlier this week. His contract in Salerno contains a €25 million release clause, a figure fitting Milan’s budget. But it’s worth noting the 26-year-old isn’t Stefano Pioli’s first-choice target. Yet, he’s a far more reachable signing than other names on the list.

Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and West Ham United’s Gianluca Scamacca are preferred options. However, the Spaniard’s price tag is considered prohibitive, while the ex-Sassuolo ace hopes to return to Roma, where he learned his trade as a teenager. It leaves Milan strapped for high-profile targets.

Therefore, Dia could be an ideal emergency signing. At least based on his maiden Serie A campaign. The former Villarreal forward enjoyed a fantastic breakout season in Italy, netting 16 goals in 33 league appearances to help Salernitana avoid relegation. Only Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez outscored the Milan target in 2022/23.

But the Rossoneri are not the only contenders to sign the Granata talisman. Fiorentina, Roma, and Lazio are also in the mix. Milan could still have an ace up their sleeve. Up-and-comer Marco Brescianini has caught the eye of Salernitana director Morgan De Sanctis and could be part of a deal to take Dia to San Siro.
