Milan Include Out-of-Favor Striker in Extensive Talks with Real Madrid

Milan are discussing multiple players with Real Madrid, and Luka Jovic has emerged as an alternative to Olivier Giroud. While Brahim Diaz is inching closer to a return, the Serbian international could soon become a tangible target, Sky Sport reported.

The Rossoneri are looking to add a striker that could lower Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s minutes and potentially play next to him. Moreover, the Swedish ace is recovering from knee surgery and is not 100 percent certain to be ready for the start of the season. With Milan back in the Champions League, they intend to have more depth up front. They did not retain Mario Mandzukic at the end of his six-month contract.

Their top objective is Giroud, whom they have been tracking for weeks. However, Chelsea picked up a unilateral option to extend his deal, while Milan only wants a free transfer. His agents are optimistic it could still happen. The situation should get clearer, one way or the other, after the Euro.

Jovic is now the plan B if the Frenchman does not join. Real Madrid acquired him for €60M in 2019, but he has not lived up to expectations. He transferred back to Eintracht Frankfurt, the team where he blossomed, on loan last January. He scored 4 goals in 18 appearances and would move to Milan with the same formula. While Giroud and Jovic are different types of center-forwards, the Rossoneri are mostly attracted by the possibility of adding a good player for a small sum.
