Milan, Inter, Juve and Spurs Vying for Sampdoria Star

After his midweek heroics against Inter, the hype has never been bigger for Sampdoria’s Mikkel Damsgaard, as a host of top Italian clubs – as well as other European sides – are all interested in his signature. According to La Gazzetta Della Sport (via Calciomercato), Milan, Inter, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspurs as well as Bayer Leverkusen are all following the young Dane hoping to secure his services as soon as possible.

The 20-year-old arrived at Sampdoria last summer coming from Nordsjaelland for a fee of 6.5m euros, and the Blucerchiati would surely make a huge profit from his sale after locking down a starting spot in Claudio Ranieri’s tactical system.

Damsgaard usually features as a left-winger, however, his best display of the season came as a second-striker against Inter last Wednesday, when he cut his way around four Nerazzurri players to provide a sublime assist for Keita Baldé.

The Young Danish star has now provided three goals and two assists in his 15 Serie A appearances.

Our View on the Potential Transfer of Damsgaard

We’ve seen this one before countless of times. A number of top clubs battling for the signature of a young prospect after a marquee performance.

Nonetheless, from what we’ve seen from Damsgaard so far – even before his famous performance against Inter – the player has the potential to become a true footballing star if he continues to evolve his game.

The Sampdoria man is not exactly the ideal profile to fit Antonio Conte’s rigid 3-5-2, nor is the under-pressure tactician too fond of raising youngsters, but a move to Milan could make more sense as it would comply with the club’s policy of signing young and talented players for reasonable amounts.

But for the sake of the player’s development, both Damsgaard and Sampdoria would do well in avoiding the immediate temptation of big transfer move, as the youngster should be allowed to slowly develop in less tense environment, especially under the tutelage of Claudio Ranieri.
