Milan Keeping Close Tabs on Bundesliga Center-Back

Despite having other priorities in the market, Milan could launch an assault to sign a center-back in the coming weeks. Per Gianluca Di Marzio’s recent update, the Serie A runners-up have added Union Berlin’s Diogo Leite to their shortlist amid speculation they could lose Fikayo Tomori or Malick Thiaw.
There’s no shortage of defensive options at San Siro for now. However, if Tomori or Thiaw leave Milan, the Italians would probably need to dive back into the market to reinforce their backline. Premier League heavyweights Newcastle United are keen on both.
While Milan would ideally keep hold of each defender, they might consider monstrous proposals. On top of that, they’re contemplating landing a left-footed center-back to diversify their defensive options, with Paulo Fonseca expected to insist on a build-up play from the back.
After laying their eyes on RB Salzburg’s Strahinja Petrovic, Milan have reportedly joined Bayer Leverkusen and Bologna in the race to sign the 25-year-old Leite. Whether he’d be a valuable addition to a club of Milan’s caliber is open for debate.
Leite helped Union Berlin preserve their Bundesliga status by the skin of their teeth last term. However, he averaged a dismal 80% pass ratio, not to mention being dribbled past 0.8 times per game. These are hardly the stats worthy of a club like Milan.
Again, Milan would likely go after Leite only if they sell Tomori or Thiaw. Otherwise, they’d probably stay as they are, knowing the significance of strengthening other squad areas.
