Milan Keeping Tabs on Udinese Star as Alternative Route

Milan are having a hard time concurring to a fee with Monaco for Youssouf Fofana and have tested the waters about Lazar Samardzic as a fallback. The Udinese talent would surely be less expensive. However, the two have very different characteristics.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri aim to spend €20M for the French midfielder. His side is demanding €10M more for now despite his short-term contract. It remains to be seen how long the negotiation will continue given the considerable gap.

Milan have already opened talks with Samardzic and his camp and are preparing to table their bid for Udinese should the impasse for Fofana continue. The Serb is likely to depart after being on the precipice of switching sides in each of the last two windows.

The 22-year-old’s transfer to Inter collapsed on the 11th hour last summer due to issues with his entourage and father. Instead, Napoli made strides with the Friulani but couldn’t convince him to join in January. Juventus have also been routinely linked to him. He has racked up 97 appearances since coming to Serie A, scoring 13 times and providing 9 assists.

Our Take on Milan, Samardzic, and Fofana

The two are so diverse that they can’t really be alternatives. The ideal outcome would be to sign both and add quality and quantity to their midfield, but that’s neither here nor there, and they have other areas to address too. A few big sides have taken a stab at trying to onboard him and failed, and they are rather stern when it comes to personal terms, commissions, and whatnot.
