Up-and-coming Bologna ace Joshua Zirkzee has emerged as a potential transfer target for Milan ahead of the next summer transfer window. According to Tuttsport via MilanNews, the current Serie A pacesetters have identified the skilled forward as the ideal candidate to replace Olivier Giroud for the long term.
Milan fought tooth and nail down the final stretch of the transfer window to recruit an out-and-out striker. But after the attempts to lure Porto’s Mehdi Taremi and Lille’s Jonathan David to the San Siro, they had to settle for Fiorentina outcast Luka Jovic. There’s a feeling the former Real Madrid flop is only a temporary solution.
Jovic still has plenty of time to convince Milan to extend his stay in Lombardy. Stefano Pioli handed him his first start in the Rossoneri shirt against Genoa on the stroke of October’s international break. Yet, it’s fair to say the Serbian frontman did nothing worth mentioning. Zirkzee, on the other hand, impressed on the same weekend.
Zirkzee scored a delightful solo goal to round off Bologna’s comeback against Inter at Giuseppe Meazza. It was his second goal of the season as Thiago Motta’s side hauled back a two-goal deficit to eke out a 2-2 draw against the fiercest Milan rivals.
Following a topsy-turvy adaptation year since swapping Bayern Munich for Rossoblu in the summer of 2022, the 22-year-old seems to be hitting his stride at Renato Dall’Ara. His technical prowess and ability to include his teammates in play perfectly suit Milan.
