Milan Linked to Former Rival Thriving with Galatasaray

Milan have begun examining some veteran strikers as Olivier Giroud is most likely headed to the Los Angeles FC, and Mauro Icardi has emerged as an option. He has been filling his boots with Galatasaray and wouldn’t mind returning to Serie A, DAZN reported (via OneFootball).

The marksman’s price tag is €10/15M. On the other hand, his wages are very high, around €11M including add-ons. He’s tied to Cimbom until 2026. He would have to accept a steep pay cut to facilitate the transfer. The 31-year-old has registered 46 goals and 19 assists in 64 matches with his current club.

Icardi set roots in Milan during his Inter stay. He spent five years with their crosstown rivals between 2013 and 2018, accumulating 2019 appearances.

Giroud didn’t confirm his departure but didn’t dismiss the rumors talking to TeleFoot on Sunday (via SportMediaset).

“No comment. The season isn’t over yet, and I’ll play in the Euro with France too. I’ve nothing to say on the matter. Being supported by the fans fills me with joy and pride. I try to enjoy every moment the best I can. I’m having fun on the pitch, and that’s the most important thing.”

Our Take on Milan and Icardi

It appears Luka Jovic will stay put, and he’s done enough as a super-sub to deserve it, but that doesn’t exclude another addition, perhaps an old-fashioned bruiser to have more variety. It’ll probably be somebody less expensive and cumbersome than the Argentine.
