Milan Linked to Malmo Defender, Maldini Chimes In on Search

Milan have added another defender to their list of options to fill in for Simon Kjaer. The father of Anel Ahmedhozic revealed that the Rossoneri inquired about his son. A bidding war appears to be brewing for the 22-year-old center-back.

Mirsad Ahmedhodzic told Bosnian site Reprezentacija: “Many clubs are chasing after Anel. It seems that Milan joined in last night. They started talking with Malmo. Brentford, a German club, and two French ones are also pursuing him. Anything is possible at this stage.”

Milan director Paolo Maldini addressed the search of a defender to DAZN yesterday: “We can no longer think as if Silvio Berlusconi was the owner. He signed the best players in the world at the time. You can not expect pricey acquisitions. We try to be sustainable, that is our mission now.”

He weighed on their no.1 target Sven Botman: “He is a very good player, but he is under contract with Lille until 2024. He is not the only capable center-back in the world, there are other options, and we need one now. Whether we will acquire somebody on loan or on a permanent deal will hinge on the cost and on the type of player.”

On top of Milan, Newcastle are also intensely tracking the Lille defender, The Athletic reports. Ahmedhodzic has already accumulated significant experience despite his age. He has featured in 82 matches at Malmoe, including 18 European ones, and has 12 caps with his national team. He was close to joining Atalanta last summer, but they picked Merih Demiral instead.
