Milan Loanee Admits Enjoying Beating His Parent Club

Charles De Ketelaere admits he enjoyed beating his parent club Milan on Saturday evening as Luis Muriel’s magic inspired Atalanta to a late 3-2 in Bergamo. In a game highlighted by the visitors’ lapses of concentration at the back, the Belgian forward could’ve soaked up the hero tag.

Instead, De Ketelaere’s epic miss inside the first ten minutes has become viral for all the wrong reasons. It’s unfathomable how the Milan loanee failed to put the ball in the back of the net after finding himself unmarked barely a yard out.

The Gewiss Stadium went into raptures as they expected De Ketelaere to beat Mike Maignan from point-blank. But he inexplicably launched the ball into the stands. Bereft of confidence, he sat on the ground in disbelief. Luckily for him, Milan failed to seize the lifeline he threw them.

De Ketelaere, who joined Atalanta on a season-long loan from Milan in the summer, has enjoyed a mini-renaissance in Bergamo. Yet, today’s miss could have significant repercussions on his confidence moving forward. For now, though, he can savor this moment.

All wins have a special feeling, as it is not easy to win in Serie A, but yes, I admit this win has a different flavor to it. I was so disappointed after that chance, though,” the Milan loanee said, as relayed by Gianluca Di Marzio

Atalanta can turn the 22-year-old’s switch permanent for a reported €24 million at the end of the season. But if moments like this become a trend, Milan can forget about cashing in on their overpaid flop.
