Despite witnessing a recent resurgence under Carlo Ancelotti, forward Marco Asensio has once again been linked to the exit door at Real Madrid. Milan are the main contenders for the Spaniard, having been linked with him for a considerable amount of time now.
However, in his most recent interview with Bernabeu Digital (via Calciomercato), Asensio disclosed his intention of staying put with Los Blancos in the Spanish capital.
“I want to renew and stay in Madrid for a long time, but it’s not just up to me. We’re talking about it and we’ll see how things go.”
Real Madrid and Asensio have failed to notch up an extension so far, with the 27-year-old winger’s contract set to expire soon at the end of the season. The European champions have offered a four-year deal with an increase in salary up to €4.8M – something Milan ponder they could match.
Ancelotti also commented on the attacker’s future in his latest press conference.
“I see him well, I don’t know if he will stay here or not. It may be that he stays or that he goes away, I don’t know and I don’t care much. We have a very important challenge this season, so what interests me is that he is contributing, as he did last year. I hope it continues like this, then the club will make the right decision.”
There is also lingering interest from Premier League clubs.
Both Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini hold the Mallorca youth product in high regard. However, much will depend on how negotiations between Asensio and Real Madrid turn out in the upcoming weeks.
