Milan Made Contact with Ligue 1 Goalkeeper Amid Maignan Exit Talks

It seems like Milan are preparing for life after Mike Maignan amid growing speculation linking the Frenchman with a move to Manchester City. Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo reveals the Italians have initiated talks with Nice over Polish goalkeeper Marcin Bulka.

Maignan has developed into one of Europe’s most highly-rated stoppers in Europe since swapping Lille for Milan in 2021. The 28-year-old has two more years left to run on his contract at San Siro. However, he could leave the club this summer.

Despite genuine ambition to tie their first-team stalwart down to a new deal, Milan can’t meet Maignan’s wage demands. On top of that, Pep Guardiola sees the France international as an ideal replacement for Ederson. The Brazilian could depart the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Several Saudi Pro League clubs have shown interest in Ederson. Even though he’s only 30, the ex-Benfica man could end his seven-year association with the perennial Premier League champions to find a new home in the Middle East. And Milan could pay the price.

Replacing Maignan would be an uphill task. During their farewell speeches, Stefano Pioli and Olivier Giroud urged Milan to go above and beyond to keep hold of their star goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, if Man City come knocking on the door, it would probably be the end of Maignan’s career at Milan. Finding a goalie of his quality to fill the vacancy would pose a considerable challenge.

However, the wheels are already in motion. Geoffrey Moncada has made exploratory contact with Bulka’s camp. The Milan chief executive wants to understand the deal’s feasibility.
