Milan misfit Noak Okafor has emerged as a potential makeweight in a deal to bring Roma outcast Tammy Abraham to the Stadio San Siro. However, according to Calciomercato, Paulo Fonseca’s men have withdrawn the Switzerland international from the transfer list, suggesting they will not use him as a counterpart in negotiations with the Giallorossi.
The versatile 25-year-old forward joined Milan from RB Salzburg last summer. Unfortunately, his first season in Serie A was disappointing. Deployed across several attacking positions, Okafor netted seven goals and delivered two assists in 29 appearances for the Rossoneri. Despite failing to live up to the billing, his career at Milan isn’t over.
Okafor’s commitment and ambition to succeed at Milan has reportedly impressed Fonseca in pre-season. As such, the Portuguese manager is ready to give the Swiss star another bite of the cherry. Fonseca’s decision halts speculation linking Okafor with a move to Roma as part of a swap deal for Abraham.
Though Milan will not renounce Okafor’s services, they remain keen to sign the former Chelsea striker. Regardless of Alvaro Morata’s arrival, the Italian giants are in the market for another attacking reinforcement. Abraham is the likeliest candidate to answer the call, but Milan must find common ground with Roma.
Daniele De Rossi no longer needs Abraham after signing Artem Dovbyk from Girona. But Roma still hope to get around €25 million for the Englishman. It’s virtually impossible to expect Milan to meet such a hefty price tag.
