Milan Need of New Center-Back Amplified by Tomori Injury

Milan will have to step up their pursuit of a new centre-back to fill the void left by Fikayo Tomori’s injury, with several names on their shopping list. According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri management are exploring the possibility of signing Lille’s Sven Botman and Torino’s Gleison Bremer amongst others.

Milan were reportedly keen on Paris Saint-Germain misfit Abdou Diallo as the former Borussia Dortmund man tumbled down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes. However, Les Parisiens are hell-bent on making a profit from the 25-year-old’s departure and are looking to sell him outright. Therefore, the Serie A giants have switched to other targets.

Eric Bailly of Manchester United remains an option for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara. The Ivory Coast international has failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, and despite only recently penning a new contract, he could be on his way out as early as this winter. But the ex-Villarreal defender’s recurring injury problems are an issue.

With Maldini and Massara seeking a more sustainable solution, the name of Bremer has returned to fashion. The Brazilian, who has gone from strength to strength at Torino over the past couple of years, is a profile seriously considered by the Rossoneri hierarchy.

Yet, to capture the 24-year-old’s services, Milan would likely have to beat stiff competition from Inter and a host of foreign sides. The clubs are already in talks over Pietro Pellegri’s move to Turin, and the current Serie A runners-up could take advantage to open discussions over Bremer’s switch to the San Siro.

Another viable solution for Milan is Arthur Theate, who has enjoyed a decent first half of the season at Bologna from Oostende. The 21-year-old is a versatile defender with plenty of room for improvement, though he seems likely to stay at the Renato Dall’Ara until the summer.
