Milan Newbie Chukwueze Explains Osimhen Role in His Serie A Move

Away on international duty with Nigeria, one of the Milan marquee summer signings, Samuel Chukwueze, opened up on his decision to join Rossoneri. In an interview with the Nigerian media, the left-footed winger admitted he spoke to Victor Osimhen before green-lighting the San Siro switch.

Milan forked out €20 million plus another €8m in add-ons to bring Chukwueze from Villarreal in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old has yet to make Stefano Pioli’s starting lineup. But that could change in the upcoming Derby della Madonnina of all fixtures.

With Christian Pulisic expected to make a late return from his international assignments with the United States, Chukwueze could line up alongside Rafael Leao and Noah Okafor in the frontline. Milan will be out to protect their phenomenal 100% Serie A start against Simone Inzaghi’s impeccable Inter side on Saturday, September 16.

Scoring against Nerazzurri would be a dream debut for Chuwkueze, who turned down numerous offers to join Milan in the summer. It looks like Napoli superstar Osimhen has played his part in convincing his compatriot to come to Serie A.

I spoke with Osimhen, who has been in Italy for a few years. He told me to come and that Milan is a good club,” Chukwueze said, as quoted by Calciomercato

Osimhen’s influence wasn’t the only factor behind the winger’s transfer to Milan. The Rossoneri supporters fought tooth and nail to persuade Chukwueze to continue his career at San Siro.

In the summer, fans wrote to me everywhere. When the fans want you so much, when they say they need you, then you think seriously. They were so glad to see me. The fans wanted me.”
