Milan Not Contemplating Coaching Change amid Downturn

Milan aren’t considering firing Stefano Pioli, as their current skid hasn’t affected their trust in the coach. They have lost four matches in a row. It hadn’t happened since 2017, when Vincenzo Montella was at the helm. But there are no abrupt decisions on the horizon. It’s not just a matter of gratitude for the Scudetto. The boss is only partly at fault for the situation, Corriere della Sera informs.

From the management, which botched the summer window and didn’t do much in January, to the players, some of whom are in poor form, many share the blame for the crisis. The gaffer is expected to keep his job until the end of the season.

That doesn’t mean he’s not under scrutiny, as his recent choices haven’t panned out. Pioli fielded his Milan squad with 3-5-2 and excluded Rafael Leao in the Derby, and it didn’t work out. The Portuguese star is said to lack conditioning, and the noise about his renewal doesn’t help.

The Rossoneri are losing ground in the Champions League race. There are at least €40M in prize money at stake. Per La Repubblica, Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi would top the shortlist of replacements in the summer, but their contracts might be too pricey for the American owners.

Our Take on Milan and Pioli

The manager has built enough equity to deserve time. They aren’t competing with juggernauts to make the top four, so a little run could be enough to pull away. The Rossoneri should have it in them once some of their linchpins get back into acceptable shape.
