Milan One Step Away from Signing Zirkzee as Personal Terms Agreed

Milan could soon announce the arrival of Bologna talisman Joshua Zirkzee after finding a crucial breakthrough in talks with his agent. Calciomercato reports the Netherlands international has agreed upon personal terms with the Rossoneri.

Zirkzee has been the number one candidate to replace Olivier Giroud at Milan since the veteran accepted Los Angeles’ offer to move to Major League Soccer. Despite agreeing to splash out €40 million to activate the 23-year-old’s release clause, they needed to overcome several hurdles.

Competition for Zirkzee’s services is as fierce as it gets. Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United are hot on his heels but also behind Milan in the queue. That’s after the Serie A runners-up came to terms with the Dutchman.

The Bologna ace has green-lighted the Rossoneri’s five-year contract bid worth €4 per season. Moreover, they’re reportedly making progress in negotiations with his agent, Kia Joorabchian, to lower his bizarre €15m compensation fee request.

After informing Zirkzee’s entourage that they have no intention of meeting his demands, Milan are waiting for a response as that’s the last sticking point they need to resolve to sign the Dutchman. With the player’s consent in the bag, they’re optimistic about closing the deal on short notice.

In addition to Zirkzee, Milan could land another center-forward in the coming months as Luka Jovic’s future at San Siro hangs by a thread. Everything depends on the incoming manager Paulo Fonseca, who will be in Italy on Wednesday to sign a contract.
