Milan have kicked the tires on Romelu Lukaku amid their never-ending search for a new striker, but they will bring him in only under favorable conditions. They won’t overspend for an aging player nor give him wages that could cause problems in their locker room, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
The Rossoneri will continue to be hardliners regarding the economic aspects of their acquisitions. The Joshua Zirkzee deal has almost collapsed at this point as they are unwilling to budge about the commissions.
Milan only want Lukaku on loan, or for a lot less than €43M, the sum requested by Chelsea, and if he drastically lowered his wages. He makes €12M in London, while he earned €7.5M in the past campaign.
Inter spent €7.8M to have him back for one season, while the Giallorossi €5.8M. The Rossoneri would be fine with that. They believe the Blues could be open to another temporary departure, perhaps with an obligation to buy, later on. Furthermore, they aim to pay him just €6.5M to avoid raising their internal cap on salaries, which is set by Rafael Leao.

Those terms would make the signing a little more palatable, but there are many more intriguing options out there. The Rossoneri dismissed the notion of selling one star to fund their additions, but they are surely not acting very quickly while keeping ahold of everybody for now.
