Milan Player Ratings vs Salernitana: Thiaw Error Tops Nightmare Showing

Malick Thiaw made a dreadful error as Milan again dropped points at home, this time courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Salernitana. The Rossoneri took their foot off the gas after Olivier Giroud scored a first-half opener, and a desperate late push was not enough to salvage all three points.

Mike Maignan – 8

Milan’s newly returned net-minder continues to show why he is one of the best in the world. Salernitana started the match with a high danger chance, as Boulaye Dia broke free and attempted to round Maignan in the box. However, the goalkeeper made a wonderful last-ditch challenge, keeping his side in the lead.

Pierre Kalulu – 7

Overall, Kalulu played strong defense, tracking the correct man when Salernitana scored its second half goal.

Malick Thiaw – 4

On the visitors’ opening goal, Salernitana’s rotating movement befuddled the young defender. As Andrea Candreva and Dia overlapped, Thiaw lost his man, allowing the striker a free shot on goal, which he scored with ease.

Fikayo Tomori – 7

Next to Thiaw, Tomori did not know much about the equalizer, but he played well, shutting down Candreva on the wing.

Ismael Bennacer – 7.5

From his position in the central midfield, Bennacer flashed his more creative side. The Algerian sent in a quality cross to assist on Giroud’s opener, and he was confident when progressing the ball into the attacking third.

Rade Krunic – 7

In the defensive midfield, Krunic played excellently when Milan was out of possession. He provided an active presence in the centre of the pitch, helping the Rossoneri win back the ball several times.

Theo Hernandez – 6

Hernandez did well to facilitate movement of the ball in the midfield, but his attacking prowess was unimpressive for a majority of the match.

Alexis Saelemaekers – 5.5

The Belgian put in his typical high work rate, but he simply was not creative in the final third.

Brahim Diaz – 4.5

Like Saelemaekers, Diaz did not influence Milan’s attack enough, and he struggled with the ball at his feet. The midfielder was dispossessed five times in just over 60 minutes, and Stefano Pioli ultimately replaced him with Charles De Ketelaere.

Rafael Leao – 5

In the form of his last few matches, Leao continues to create dangerous chances for his side, but his finishing is still lacking. Often, he needs to curl the ball more, but he frequently puts too much power behind his shots and misses the goal completely.

Olivier Giroud – 7.5

Despite being closely and physically marked by one of Salernitana’s defenders, Giroud outmuscled his opponent and managed to put his head on a corner from Bennacer. As the goal occurred just before the break, it gave the hosts a massive boost as they headed into the locker room.

Substitutes

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 5

The Swede really should have scored as he connected with the ball from close range. However, Salernitana made its second save on the line.

Charles De Ketelaere – 5

During his 30 minutes on the pitch, the midfielder did not see much of the ball and had one of the worst attempted headers in recent memory.

Divock Origi – 5.5

The striker should have netted a goal in the 75th minute, but Guillermo Ochoa made a wonderful save to keep the ball out of the net.

Alessandro Florenzi – N/A

Sandro Tonali – N/A
