Milan Poach Highly Successful Youth Exec from Roma

Milan bolstered their management by striking a deal to onboard Vincenzo Vergine to chair their youth academy. The negotiations lasted for a few months. The parties came to terms earlier this week, Gianluca Di Marzio informs.

The new addition comes in with a proven track record. He was helming Fiorentina along with Pantaleo Corvino when Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic burst onto the scenes. He’s leaving Roma, where he contributed to six titles in various divisions.

Milan will overhaul the department with the arrival of Vergine. They used to have two heads, one for the teams until the U-17, Angelo Carbone, and another, Paolo Danzè, for the U-18 and U-19 ones. They both left at the end of their contracts in June, as they were tight with Paolo Maldini. Antonio D’Ottavio oversaw the youth sector while the brass was in talks with the Giallorossi official.

The 55-year-old departs the Italian capital after two seasons. He worked for Fiorentina from 2006 to 2019. He cut his teeth at Lecce beforehand.

Vergine will run the whole Milan academy without splitting duties. Mauro Leo, who has been Tiago Pinto’s right-hand man in recent years, and returning team manager Gianluca Gombar are succeeding him in the Roma structure, Corriere dello Sport informs.
