Milan Poised to Confirm Signings from Chelsea and Lazio

Milan announced the arrival of Marco Sportiello Wednesday and will onboard two more players soon, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Luka Romero. The English midfielder has already landed in Italy and is taking the medicals, Sky reports.

The Rossoneri completed the agreement with Chelsea. They will pay €21.5M including add-ons. He’ll be the first addition to their midfield, which will lose Sandro Tonali and won’t have Ismael Bennacer for months. The 27-year-old starred 155 times with the Blues, tallying 13 goals and 18 assists.

Romero will formally join a few days after Loftus-Cheek, but they have come to terms with him as well. He’ll be a Bosman signing as his contract with Lazio is about to end. He’ll ink a four-year deal. The Rossoneri plot to use him more as a no.10 than as a winger, the publication adds.

The Argentine has a Spanish passport and won’t count against the quota of extra-EU purchases. He logged 21 appearances in his two Biancocelesti campaigns, mainly off the bench, and scored once.

Our Take on Milan, Loftus-Cheek, and Romero

The former shouldn’t be seen as a replacement for Tonali, as they’ll need somebody with better ball-handling chops, but rather as an upgrade over Rade Krunic or a delayed substitute for Franck Kessié, especially his final version, when he was starring as a muscular trequartista. Still, the acquisition is pretty unusual relative to their supposed priorities, and he didn’t come cheap either. Instead, it’ll be interesting to see whether they’ll keep the youngster or loan him out, as he’s very raw.
