Milan, Porto, and Conceiçao Still in a Holding Pattern

Milan will have to wait a few more weeks before learning whether Sergio Conceiçao will be their next coach. The first meeting between him and new Porto president André Villas-Boas was inconclusive. It feels like the cohabitation wouldn’t be too smooth. It remains to be seen whether one of the two will make the first step toward a divorce, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed (via Zazoom).

The chairman might want to hire somebody closer to him, but it’d be an unpopular decision given the gaffer’s success in recent years. If the split happens, it’ll probably have to be the boss who initiates it thanks to a clause in his contract.

Milan have Conceiçao at the top of their wish list but won’t meddle with Porto. They aren’t necessarily in a hurry yet given that there are still three matches to play. Stefano Pioli will have a warm sendoff.

In the meantime, Paulo Fonseca has received a strong offer from Marseille. He’s more likely to wind up there than with the Rossoneri. They want to see it through with the other Portuguese manager first.

They’d go back to the well if they missed out on him. A surprise candidate can’t be ruled out. In any case, it won’t be somebody who’s working in Serie A currently.

Our Take on Milan, Porto, and Conceiçao

It’s not crunch time yet, but they better do their best to persuade him if his exit clause is real and that simple.
