Milan are concocting their initial bid onboard Hakim Ziyech in January. They tried last summer, but they couldn’t come to terms with him and Chelsea. They’ll have better chances to succeed this time around since he has still been a backup in the first half of the season, playing just 270 minutes.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan will propose a season-long loan, paying €15M between a small initial fee and their future option to buy. It might be more challenging for them to reach agreement with the attacker than with the Blues.
Ziyech currently makes €6M per year, while Milan will offer €4/4.5M. The Scudetto winners hope he’ll agree to it since he’d have a more consistent role with them. He would reunite with his former teammates Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud.
Legendary coach Arrigo Sacchi backed the idea of acquiring the Moroccan star.
“He has great technique and speed and was very promising at Ajax. Talent isn’t enough to succeed, as you also need the right mentality. I don’t know him personally, but I trust Paolo Maldini, Frederic Massara, and Stefano Pioli, who rarely make mistakes. If they believe he’ll be functional to their project, they’d be right to sign him. He would be able to play in all the three spots behind the striker since he’s versatile. The most important thing will be for him to be motivated, enthusiastic and have the right spirit.”
Our Take on Milan and Ziyech
The Rossoneri appear determined in their pursuit, and it would be a high-profile reclamation project with major prospective benefits. While Chelsea probably won’t put up much resistance, they’ll have to be wary about other suitors that could perhaps offer him larger wages.
