A never-ending transfer saga involving in-demand Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could get the final epilogue. According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanLive), the Rossoneri are preparing a last-ditch offer to lure the Italian to pledge his long-term future to the San Siro.
Donnarumma’s contract in Lombardy is due to expire in the summer, with his agent Mino Raiola continuing to torment Milan with excessive demands. The 22-year-old currently earns €6million per season on the name of the deal.
However, the super-agent representing the prodigious shop-stopper is pressuring the Serie A powerhouse to hand his client a substantial pay raise up to €10-12m per year. Given the financial collapse caused by the coronavirus pandemic, virtually no side in Europe can afford such exorbitant wages for a goalkeeper.
Therefore, Milan are readying a two-year contract extension for Donnarumma worth €7m net per season plus €1m in various add-ons. It is understood that Paolo Maldini and co will not go beyond that figure despite the club’s desperate desire to keep hold of their homegrown star.
In spite of his tender age, Donnarumma already has over 200 Serie A appearances under his belt. Widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in European football, he has a host of admirers across Europe’s top-five divisions.
Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Real Madrid have all registered interest in Donnarumma. With the involvement of such prominent clubs in the race for his client’s signature, Raiola can do what he does best – blackmail Milan.
The Italy-born agent has already made it clear he forbids the inclusion of a release clause in Donnarumma’s potential new deal at the San Siro. The Rossoneri appear to be ready to accept Raiola’s terms, as they want to avoid the risk of losing their most prized asset for free in the summer.
