Milan Probing a Few Options to Reinforce Their Midfield

The recent tactical adjustment probably won’t deter Milan from making a move in the midfield in January. They had been plotting it since Ismael Bennacer picked up a serious calf injury. He got surgery in Finland and will be sidelined for four months.

According to Calciomercato, it remains to be seen what type of contributor director Geoffrey Moncada will target. He and the coaching staff consider Yunus Musah a viable deputy for Youssouf Fofana even though the two have different characteristics.

Milan tried to acquire Carney Chukwuemeka until the final stages of the window. Another attempt is in the cards since he’s not a regular and they have an excellent rapport with Chelsea. Furthermore, they have two midfielders with more defensive-minded chops on their radar: RB Salzburg’s Lucas Gourna-Douath and Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso.

The Rossoneri are big fans of Torino’s Samuele Ricci, but he’s unlikely to transfer during the winter. Torino cashed in on two stars last summer already. His valuation is rapidly increasing due to his stellar start.

Our Take on Milan

They should definitively go for it, as whatever they can get for Bennacer is a bonus at this point. The 4-4-2 formation will help them navigate the coming months, as they have a little more depth up front thanks to Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic. They arguably need multiple additions, as their midfield was built to play with a three-man line, and they have an odd collection of pieces all different from each other.
