Milan Pursuit of Renato Sanches Took Huge Blow

Renato Sanches is on the verge of leaving Lille. However, his future could be far away from Milan despite recent reports suggesting otherwise. According to Calciomercato, Paris Saint-Germain have tabled a €30m bid to sign the Portugal international.

Meanwhile, Milan hoped to close the deal on the basis of €18m. They even looked set to sign Sanches. Unfortunately for Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, PSG’s involvement in the race could blow them out of the water.

Milan have identified Sanches as an ideal long-term replacement for Franck Kessie. The Ivorian midfielder will officially become a new Barcelona player when his contract at San Siro runs out later in June.

Though the Rossoneri long looked to be in a pole position to sign the 24-year-old, PSG boast an unparalleled economic capacity. It means Milan would need to pull off something special to outmaneuver the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions.

Milan cannot compete with Paris at the financial level. Moreover, the Italians have no intention of matching PSG’s bid to land Sanches. It could deter the Portuguese box-to-box midfielder from moving to Serie A in the summer.

Our take on Sanches’ next move

Milan and Sanches have been in talks for quite a while now. The parties seemed to have found the understanding. The ex-Bayern Munich starlet knows he would have a guaranteed starting berth in Stefano Pioli’s set-up.

In the meantime, he would have to overcome stiff competition for places at the Parc des Princes. It could make a world of difference in Sanches’ decision-making process. And it could give Milan the upper hand over PSG in the potential tug-of-war.

Sanches’ characteristics bare much resemblace to Kessie, making him the Ivorian’s perfect heir. So Milan should intensify talks with Lille and the player to beat PSG to his signature.
