AC Milan have reignited their interest in Roma loanee Cengiz Under, who is set to return to base following an underwhelming spell at Leicester City. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri were interested in the Turkey international in the January transfer market and are ready to make an attempt to capture his services this summer.
After tumbling down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico, Under switched to the King Power Stadium on a season-long loan last summer. However, the move has not worked out well, with the 23-year-old racking up just six Premier League starts this season.
Since Leicester have no intention of turning the Turkish winger’s temporary deal into a permanent one, Under is expected to return to Rome but only to move on immediately. Cash-strapped Roma are looking to raise cash for their summer spending campaign, and the ex-Istanbul Basaksehir man is one of the players they are ready to sacrifice.
The Giallorossi splashed out around €14million to sign Under from Basaksehir back in the summer of 2017 and are now hoping to recoup most of the cash they paid the Turkish side four years ago. Given the forward has another two years left to run on his contract, he will command a price tag close to €15m.
On the other hand, Milan are on the lookout for a new left-footed winger to bolster their Serie A title charge next season. Stefano Pioli’s side will undergo several attacking changes in the upcoming transfer window.
Despite the club’s unrelenting efforts to tie Hakan Calhanoglu down to a new deal at the San Siro, the 27-year-old has yet to pledge his long-term future to the Rossoneri colors. Additionally, the seven-time European Cup winners have yet to agree on another loan for Brahim Diaz, who seems destined to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Paolo Maldini also considers offloading Samu Castillejo in the summer. The Spaniard has blown hot and cold throughout 2020/21, failing to earn Pioli’s trust, and could be on the move when the transfer window reopens for business.
Under ticks all the boxes for the type of player Maldini is hopeful of recruiting ahead of the new campaign. Young, technically gifted, and warranting a reasonable salary, the Turk could be a perfect signing for the Rossoneri.
